Whoever said the pen is mightier than the sword clearly did not know that guns would be invented. We live in a time when in a matter of seconds you could lose your entire bloodline. And people want to honor that right? Why? Why is it so important to protect our right to bare arms but not our rights against illegal search and seizures?
Why are the religious extremists the ones trying to voice the opinions of our founding fathers when they explicitly stated their distaste for religion?
“In every country and in every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot, abetting his abuses in return for protection to his own. It is error alone that needs the support of government. Truth can stand by itself.”
Isn’t it time we try something new? Take a step forward instead of constantly trying to relive the past. Yes I understand that old saying of those who do not study the past are bound to repeat it. But I also understand that it’s very difficult to walk forward when you’re looking over your shoulder.
I just think it’s about time we focus on our legacy and take responsibility for our actions instead of trying to figure out what those before us would do. We live in a time when the entire world has instant access to the actions of isolated incidences in remote locations. I can look up statistics and tell you that the population of Yemen is over 24 million and that there are almost 55 guns for every 100 people in that country. This is not the same day and age as our founding fathers so we need to treat it differently. And the wild west is romantic in movies because you know that no matter what the hero goes through he will be alive in the end.
It is time to focus on our legacy. How the future will look back to us. Every decision we make should be honoring the future more than the past, because it will directly impact them.
